What if I Find Drug Paraphernalia (needles, syringes etc)
There are 3 options.
1. Call 311 and the City will send someone out to pick it up. It takes an hour or longer – especially on weekends.
2. If you want to pick it up yourself then it should be picked up with tongs or similar, put it into a puncture proof container (eg. a pop bottle or a "Sharps Kit" available at the Rosemount library ) then drop the needle off in the Syringe Drop Box that is outside the door at Tom Brown Arena. Other locations: Preston St. Fire station, outside the Civic Hospital, at the top of the Somerset St. bridge on the south side. It is a big black box like a postal box. THEN – it is really important to report the date, time, location where it was found by email to [email protected] Without a report, problems are not identified. Syringes CANNOT go in the garbage.
3. Somerset West Community Health Centre staff will also come and pick up syringes, discarded clothing from homeless people and discarded suitcases. Monday-Friday 9am-9pm, Weekends 1pm-9pm call 613-447-0029.
