Committee of Adjustment Rejects application for Minor Variance to allow outdoor car storage at 115 Champagne Avenue
This site has been used as vehicle storage for Otto's BMW Sales Centre and a notice of zoning violation was issued to the owner in July 2016. The owner then requested a Minor Variance from the Committee of Adjustment (COA) to allow outdoor storage to the site. CHNA, residents and the City Planning Department opposed the application, arguing that the proposed application is not a minor variance and must be treated as a temporary zoning amendment and go through the appropriate process. Additionally, CHNA feels this is NOT an appropriate use for the property and should not be given temporary zoning approval.
The COA's decision, CHNA's comments and those of the City Planning Dept can be found on our COA Decision page

STOP FOR US - Sign Blitz on CBC Ottawa
The city provided the CHNA with "Stop for Us" signs that have been successfully used in other neighbourhoods at notorious “roll-through” stops. Mornings are extra dangerous with kids walking to school.
As October 9th was a PD for many local schools it was deemed the perfect day to have the kids (and adults!) participate in a morning blitz at the 5-corners (Fairmont/Sherwood/Kenilworth), on Bayswater Ave. at Beech and at Holland/Sherwood. Participants came out and shaked a “STOP FOR US” sign at the drivers.
Based on our success, we may expand to other locations and/or other times.

Apr 16, 2015 - Letter to the Ottawa Citizen Editor
The issue of banning corporate and union donations during municipal elections is an important one for the residents of Ottawa and to our CHNA members. At our Fall AGM, our members approved CHNA taking the position that such donations should be banned. Our Councillor, Jeff Leiper also supports such a ban.
CHNA submitted a Letter to the Editor stating our position which the Citizen published online on April 16 and in print on April 17, 2015. We are disappointed that Councillor Nussbaum motion was not approved by City Council, but we do believe this is a conversation which has only begun.
