2018 CHNA Board of Directors:


Our Board is composed of community volunteers elected for one-year terms at the Association’s Annual General Meeting. The Board organizes community events, seeks to further community interests at City Hall, and generally works to protect and promote the quality of life in our neighbourhood. Any Association member in good standing is welcome to stand for election.

Karen Wright: President

Karen is excited to be reelected to the CHNA Executive and is proud to continue her work to represent our neighbourhood interests.   She and her husband Corey have enjoyed living on MacFarlane Avenue for over 20 years.  Karen has a business degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and after a successful career in IT,  is now enjoying sales and marketing in the Canadian wine industry.  Karen is a member of the Nepean Sailing club and chaired the club's Easter Seals Regatta from 2008 to 2013, raising funds for local Easter Seals families.


Peter Eady: Vice President

Peter has been a member of the CHNA Executive since 2010 and prior to taking the reins of the VP position,  he served as our Chair of the Traffic Committee.  Peter and his partner Kathie have lived on Hickory Street since 1992 and raised two children there, but now enjoy an empty nest.  Peter has a degree in Political Science and Mass Communications from Carleton University.  He has previously served as Board Member at a non-profit theatre company and a cooperative daycare centre.  He works as an account and project manager in the entertainment lighting industry.  


Julie Westall: Treasurer

Born and raised in Ottawa, Julie has been part of the CHNA Executive as Treasurer since 2012.  Julie and her husband Rob, bought their first house on Holland Ave. in May 2002. Not wanting to leave the neighbourhood but in search of more space, they moved to Orrin Ave. and welcomed two children. Julie is a Certified Financial Planner working at Future Financial Planning Group and term/mart Insurance Agency in Westboro.


Kathy Kennedy: Chair of Planning and Development Committee

Kathy has been a resident of the Civic Hospital neighbourhood for over 25 years. A former public servant who specialized in public engagement and consultations, Kathy is passionate about citizen-centred policy development.  She has two degrees in English Literature and is inspired by the wisdom of William Shakespeare,  who once wrote "What is the city but the people?"


Luanne Calcutt: Chair of Transportation Committee

Luanne and her family have lived and worked in the Civic Hospital neighbourhood for more than twenty years.  She joined the CHNA Executive in 2014, having been a  member of the Traffic Committee since 2009. Luanne attended the University of Ottawa where she studied physiology and public administration. Luanne and her family are supporters of Child Haven International and Farm Radio International.



Shane Quinn: Chair of Safety Committee

As Chairman of the CHNA Safety Committee, Shane is focused on crime and fraud prevention in the Civic Hospital neighborhood.  He has retired from a thirty year career with the Federal Government where he worked in National and International Public Health Policy and Intergovernmental and Parliamentary Relations.   Shane has been living on Fairmont Avenue for over 15 years.  His interests are fishing, gardening, travel and Art History.  Shane holds a Master of Arts degree in Literature and Classics and is involved with volunteer groups at the National Gallery of Canada.




Rhonda Birenbaum:  Chair of Membership Subcommittee

We are thrilled to welcome Rhonda as our new Chair of Membership for 2018. Rhonda recently retired from a successful teaching career and is a freelance writer.  She has been very active with the Liveable Bayswater Committee and her other volunteer activities include: tutoring,  Science Writers' Association, Technical Writers Association, Daycare cooperative board and and event planning/fund raising - in fact, Rhonda organized three key events that raised over $150,000!  Her hobbies include gardening, running (when she doesn't have shin splints), reading, and knitting. Welcome Rhonda!


Andy Billingsley: Chair of History and Heritage Subcommittee

Born in Ottawa, and a graduate of McGill and Queens, Andy, with his wife, Judy, and children, moved to Harmer S. in 1971 when he joined Statistics Canada. In 1990, Andy became President of Tradex Management Inc., an Ottawa-based mutual fund firm.   A direct descendent of a Gaspe Loyalist, Andy now enjoys writing family histories.


Laurel McIvor:  Chair of Environment Committee

Laurel was previously our secretary and is now our Environment Lead for CHNA.  Very appropriately for her role... she is an avid kayaker, canoeist, hiker and vegetable gardener.  Laurel is passionate about building community, loves learning from other people and continually strives to live more sustainably.  She brings a wealth of experience with conservation and ecology community initiatives and has been an active participant and leader in Liveable Bayswater since moving to our community over 6 years ago.
